The treatment has a stinging sensation almost like the snap of a rubber band. Most clients are able to tolerate the procedure without difficulty. Every person has a different sensitivity level, because of this topical numbing cream is available.
What happens to the skin after treatment?
Reddening and swelling of the skin is the desired reaction. It usually subsides within a few hours after treatment. No bandages are necessary and you are able to reapply makeup, return to work and continue your normal activities immediately. After the first treatment a reduction will occur in 2-4 weeks, sometimes immediately. A follow-up appointment is scheduled at a preset interval and you are encouraged to keep this for optimal results.
How many treatments will I need?
Most of our clients are able to discontinue treatments after an average of 5-6 treatments. An occasional touch-up is desired as dormant hair begins to emerge. This requirement is decreased if the recommended treatment intervals are followed. Results also may vary depending on hair type, stress levels, medications and different hormone therapies. Some clients require more treatments and some less depending on the desired results.
Is laser hair removal permanent?
The FDA has cleared the laser hair removal for "permanent reduction" only regardless of the laser being used. This means that the treated hair will not grow back. Each individual's response will be different based on hair color, skin color and density of hair. We have no way of predicting when dormant hair may begin growing in response to hormones, stress levels and medications.
What if I have gray, white, blonde hair?
The laser is attracted to pigment in the hair follicle, the less pigment the less treatment results. The technology is being developed to expand treatment of all hair colors.
